Remember when our kitchen looked like this?
Well, now it looks like this:
So yeah, we had a few minor updates. Let’s just say, I’m in love. I’ve thought seriously about moving my bed downstairs and living here full time. Let’s go through some of my favorite changes:
This is where my grandmother’s two old refrigerators used to sit (one is missing in the photo).
We took out the old appliances and bought stainless steel ones to replace them. We also went down to one refrigerator instead of two, and to fill in the gap we had shelves and extra drawers fill in the space.
This is our old sink:
Although it was still in fairly good condition, I had my eye on a single-bowl farmhouse sink, and just fell in love when this filled it was finally installed:
The dishwasher is the only appliance that we actually kept. However, in order to incorporate the cream color into our white kitchen, we used this fun cover from Appliance Art. Voila! $40 later we have a new (looking) dishwasher!
The one thing that I have long been coveting is the kitchen booth. I’ve always loved booths; they add a coziness to a kitchen that is difficult to find in a table. As much as I cherish all the memories that I have sitting at this table:
I’m excited about the new ones that I’ll have in this one:
I couldn’t wait to replace the flooring. When my grandparents first moved into this house, a screened in porch flanked that back of the kitchen. Eventually they enclosed the porch and incorporated it into the kitchen, but the floor in the two spaces has always been different: linoleum in the original kitchen space, and tile where the old porch used to be. I wanted a new floor across the entire room to bring the two areas together.
We found this incredible luxury vinyl tile that looks remarkably like hardwood, except that it’s waterproof and doesn’t scratch. Win/win.
So there your have it, one remodeling project complete! I PROMISE that I will start posting about something besides this kitchen, but as you can tell, we’ve had our hands full with it the last two months. If you like anything we did, here’s the information you need to do it yourselves:
